drives - always more fun in a BMW
British Columbia has some spectacular scenery, and some really great roads. Here are a few simple day tours I like to take to enjoy both the driving and the scenery. (Some of the maps have larger map images linked to them.)
Favorite Day Trips in Southwestern BC
Vancouver to Whistler and Pemberton

The famous Highway 99 Scenic route.

Often a bit congested, but still a wonderful drive full of great scenery. Be sure to stop at some of the scenic markers along the way.

There's a great brew pub in Squamish, and of course lots to see and do once you get to Whistler.

Vancouver to Harrison and Hope

An excellent day drive along the scenic areas on the north side of the Fraser River.

Check out the back roads from Haney to Mission, stop at Westminster Abbey, and enjoy a walk along the promenade in Harrison.

Vancouver to Manning Park and beyond

The real fun of this trip is the part from Hope to Manning Park.

Check out the Hope slide, watch for wildlife, in the late spring be sure to stop at Rhododendron flats. In the park be sure to drive up to the Alpine meadows and out to Lightning Lakes. Good food at the Lodge.

Coquihalla Circle Tour

This is a wonderful loop tour that follows the route of the gold seekers of another era. 320 km tour all on paved roads.

Start this tour in Hope on side roads, and then it joins the Coquihalla and heads up to Merritt, the over to Spences Bridge and down the Fraser Canyon to Emory Creek and Hope.

You can pick up a detailed Coquihalla-Fraser Canyon Circle Tour card at the visitor info center in Hope.
